About Me

Alice Hannam

Having run busy diaries for two Members of the UK Parliament and the Director of a luxury travel company in London, I decided to move my work online in 2016. I now support businesses worldwide.

Professional background

Aged 19, I was one of three apprentices on a pilot scheme run by the UK Parliament. Joining a politician’s office in the House of Commons, I trained as a Diary Secretary, going on to manage a seven-day diary across two UK cities for the Member of Parliament for Edinburgh West. In my spare time in London I pursued a degree in Spanish and Japanese at London University.

Moving to the office of the Government Apprenticeships Ambassador Gordon Birtwistle MP, I ran another busy diary, whilst also writing reports for the UK Government, 10 Downing Street and businesses on the development of apprenticeships.

After four years at the House of Commons I was appointed as PA to the Director of Ampersand Travel, a bespoke luxury travel company specialising in Asia.

In 2016 I moved my work online, setting up in Japan to improve my language skills, before moving to Ubud, Indonesia- home to an exciting remote work movement. I returned to the UK in 2017, where I am currently based.

Where I differ from an online ‘Virtual Assistant or VA’

Unlike many virtual assistants operating online, I trained as a professional PA, through a structured program, in a busy office environment. I understand the subtleties of dealing with senior figures in business and the importance of fostering solid relationships through appropriate correspondence.

Why I specialise in the luxury travel, aviation and marine sectors

I play to my strengths. Having always loved travel, it’s a natural fit for me. Working for Ampersand fostered my appreciation of the perfectly planned itinerary, whilst experience gained on private yachts with my partner, a private yacht Captain, opened up a new client base in yachting and private aviation- markets where high standards are paramount.

I speak fluent Spanish and intermediate Japanese. However, I am not a qualified translator!

The remote reality

I am passionate about remote work and believe in its possibility to increase efficiency for my clients.

I guarantee a high speed connection, fast response during working hours, and to be at the end of the phone.

According to an in depth study by TINYPulse, an employee engagement firm, remote workers feel more productive, valued, and happier. Read the What Leaders Need to Know About Remote Workers report here.
